Chemical plants can pose risks to public health and the environment in the event of accidents such as leaks, explosions, fires, etc. The consequences can be serious and costly for companies or even workers. This is why an alert system that can detect and quickly report any incident or potential accident is required.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS ALERT SYSTEM?

Many chemical plants handle hazardous substances as part of their production. The transport, storage and processing of these substances can pose risks to human health and life. Although strict guidelines are applied and great caution is exercised during these activities, global experience has shown that there is a significant risk of leaks of these substances and environmental pollution.

Usually there are at least two levels of risk concentration to differentiate.

High: This is a concentration of the hazardous substance that is in a range of values higher than the standard norms, but does not yet represent a threat to human health.

Damage: The concentration of the hazardous substance is within a range of values that has exceeded the acceptable levels according to the corresponding standards, which poses a threat to human health.

THE RIGHT SOLUTION

The Early Warning System is a complex solution that integrates monitoring and warnings. First, the concentrations of hazardous substances are monitored in real time using sensors independent of the technical control systems of chemical production, which are connected to the Amadeo plant for increased safety.

Two concentration thresholds are established to measure the concentration of the hazardous substance. If the measured concentration is within the upper threshold range, the operators are immediately alerted. In the case of workstations without controls, the responsible personnel are alerted urgently. The latter can then check the reasons for the increase in concentration and take the necessary safety measures without having to declare an extraordinary situation.

THIS SOLUTION IS TO BE IMPLEMENTED WHEN:

  • It is essential to separate the monitoring system and the alert system, as they are configured with different hazardous substance concentration parameters.
  • The service tracking system does not exist.
  • Maximum automation of the activity or an alert and warning center without command is requested.
  • When looking for a separate system response for each risk concentration level of hazardous substances.

AMADEO POWER PLANTS

The various farms include the Amadeo power stations, connected to the higher alert and warning center. They start operating autonomously. Each power station is connected to the sensors of the dangerous substances.

COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE

This type of solution benefits in particular from the radio communication infrastructure. Communication via TCP/IP networks or a different line communication is rarely used.

SYSTEM CONTROL
