Why is ATEX lighting necessary for pharmaceutical manufacturing?
Pharmaceutical manufacturing may not be one of the first industries to come to mind when considering the use of ATEX equipment, but in reality most modern pharmaceutical plants are classified as hazardous areas, known as ATEX. This is due to several factors:
- Raw solvents, chemicals and gases used during the manufacturing process
- Powders, dusts and gases produced as manufacturing by-products
- Storage of materials and gases on site for use in manufacturing
This means that ATEX lighting is often needed for many areas, including manufacturing areas, clean rooms, external access and storage areas throughout the site
